Stampe Fly-in - Antwerp - Part IV - Legends flying

The highpoint of the day... Spitfire and Mustangcombo doing a little shock and awe. Brilliant to see these magnificent machines in the air, goosebumps all the way.
Sadly Tr.9, the second Spitfire wasn't present. Both Spitfires left during the morning for Lelystad Aviodrome, and rumor has it the TR9 had a problem with one of the landstrutts in Holland.
In air-shots prooved difficult, lots out of focus, but these were salvageable...
I'll post some more for the fetishists amongst us...

Why didnt anyone tell me they went to the aviodrome!! I would have happily went over there to shoot them!

So did I! I googled for it on saterday evening, but didn't find anything.
Sad news, hopefully she'll be quickly repaired. I just heared the news form one of the technicians of Old Crow.

It's the radiator scoop. When properly adjusted it actually adds several MPH to the top speed. Works on the same principle as a jet engine.

It also does a very good job of keeping the engine within operating temps...
The effect Hagar is talking about is due to a little thrust that's actually produced sometimes as the air exits, just ahead of the tail wheel. That outlet has an adjustable flap, like a cowl flap (sort of).
