Why haven't I thought of this before?

A speldid day today, lots of sun, but I got up to late to go to Brussels. So I decided to check out my local airfield ( Ursel - EBUL), to see if there is any movement at sunday. The place was buzzing like nothing I've seen before. GA-planes landing, departing, performin touch and go's... and I was the only spotter at the scene!

Anyway, first serious test with the 70 - 300 mm lense...

All in all I'm very pleased with the results. However, something seems to go wrong in the resizing. The edges become a bit jagged.

My procedure:

resizing in photoshop elemens 4.0

unsharp mask (amount 111% - radius 0,7 pixels - 2 levels)

Anyone have an idea on how to correct this?

Cheers,

Omag

I tend to do more USM at a lower radius....around 300 at 0.2 on a new layer then rub out any jaggies if the pic is quite small.....on a big pic I can go up to 500 at 0.2 and it may need a couple of passes

looks like a Dutch Shoreham :D

lovely pics

Great light, superb shots  8-)

like Mic, give the USM a go at 1 level, 0.2 pixels for anywhere between 100 and 500 on the first pass, then build up further passes of 100, or 50 or 25 etc until you are happy.

If you really want to go mad then create a new layer, sharpen it as above, layer mask it, fill it black, then brush white onto all the areas you want to sharpen. You can then paint in black again on any areas that get too jaggy.

Great stuff Kris, we don't seem to have any of that light for months  ::)

Do all your enhancements on the full size image and make the last change, the re-size. That may help you keep the jaggies to a minimum.........

Not necessarily for Kris, but I have one question since I'm in the dark about one thing here........

USM ?......What is this ?........sorry for not being familiar, but I just have to ask when I need info....... :-[

Edit: Sorry for sounding lost, but I think I found your "USM".........Were you referring to Unsharp Mask ?......I had a go at my Photoshop Help Index and the "UM" was the only one that might fit what you mentioned.........  :-X

I believe it's the new 70-300mm IS

If you want to buy a 75-300.....I have one that is surplus to requirements ;)

Many apologies on the country mistake...mixed you up with Soui....you'll just have to start posting more pics Kris  ;D ;D
