The Hotshot has landed..

The Tamiya Hotshot I ordered 6 or 7 weeks ago finally arrived on Wednesday, so after a few hours each night, she's ready for a her first run tomorrow morning (weather permiting )

Think I did an ok job for a first time builder.

Most of it was easy to assemble, but there were a few parts that seemed to be awkward just for the sake of being awkward, although nothing that was too bad, just a little annoying at times - but overall it was excellent. took between 15 & 20 hours I'd say, but I reckon an experienced modeller could do it in 8 hours.

Looking forward to getting it out of the kitchen & up to a decent speed. Just a bit wary of things coming loose during the first few runs, I guess time will tell how well it was put together

thats why you treat it like a test flight.
First run it on smooth tarmac at a reduced pace. bring it back and check it out. Then run it fast and check it.
Then move onto the rougher ground, slow then fast. if it passes all those your good to go.

Thats definatley the way forward Craig, I just want to get it going fast though.  ;D I'll have to be sensible & do it like you mentioned, with occasional checks - all assuming it's not chucking it down of course, but I think we might be in for some rough weather all weekend.  >:(

well the plus side being, you will only be running it a few minutes to test it:)
Plus if its raining it'll make for some good fun on the road or car park at least.

Just the standard Futaba (R152JE) receiver that came with it & the Tamiya ESC (TEU-101BK), hand unit is the standard Fuataba T2ER Attack controller (Stick type, not those horrible wheel ones).

Sadly the weather today is one of the worst days so far, the rain is really heavy, so the Hotshot won't be doing any running today - I'm not worried about the car getting dirty - but if something were to come loose during the test runs, then I'll be b**gered if I'm walking up & down the road in the rain looking for it.  ;D

Is that a 'new' Hotshot or is it a classic one off ebay?

I have an original Boomerang upstairs, which is in need of a new set of wishbones and chassis. I seem to remember that was based on the the original hotshot, or vice versa

Ahh, the Boomerang *childhood memories flooding back*, what a great car, & another that was always on my wish list as I gazed into the local RC shop's window when I were a lad.

Have a look here for a detailed review. According to the linked site, the Boomerang was base on the Hotshot, but with a few upgrades. It certainly looks very similar to the Hotshot around the suspension arms, so you may find that the re-released Hotshot still uses the same parts, which are now becoming available again. Here's a good site with plenty of info, you might find useful: Tamiya Club.

My Hotshot is one of the new re-released ones with an ESC. Took it out to the local BMX track yesterday for the first time & it was excellent! I have noticed since building it though that I've got one of the front tyres on the wrong way round.
