Miramar Air Show-part 1
The weather was dismal when we arrived... 200-ft ceiling with steady rain. But as soon as the rain slacked off and the clouds lifted a bit, the show was on, despite a stiff xwind perpendicular to 24R.
Here's a very damp and chilly Margaret Stivers atop Hartley Folstad's beautiful Stearman... the Silver Wings had to edit their show for the low ceiling, but "Margie" did make it out onto the wing despite the raindrops... real troupers.
This was different: Dan Buchanan does a terrific hang glider display, launching off a trailer to be towed aloft by a truck.
He incorporates some mild pyrotechnics, but I didn't get that with the camera. But here's a look at the long streamers and smoke tracing delicate patterns behind him.
Coming in for a rough-looking landing...
Some great flying, and a dedicated flyer: Dan lost the use of his legs about 26 years ago, but is a world-class hang glider and sailplane pilot.

John Piggott returning from his excellent Su-29 demo...
Come on, Sun... you can do it...
