Here are a few more photos I took at the Strategic Air and Space Museum in Omaha.  Again, I must apologize for the darkness of the photos, I lightened them up as best as I could but the museum was awful dark for my camera.

The first thing you see when you walk in the door is an SR-71 Blackbird hanging right in front of you.  I took this picture as soon as I walked in, I took a couple steps to the right (before I even payed and entered the museum) and snapped this photo.  It was a cool way for the museum to start.


Here is a shot of a B-17G Flying Fortress.  Behind it is the B-36 and there is a B-52 next to it along with all the other visible aircraft.


Here is a shot of the B-17 from behind.  You can see a B-47 and B-57 in the background along with an F-111 to the left.


Here is a B-1A Lancer that was on display, I had a lot of trouble with light in this room (as you can see) and as a result, I was unable to get a shot of the Avro Vulcan just to the right of the B-1A.


Here is a F-86 Sabre hanging in the main room.  Again, there are many aircraft visible in the background including a B-52, B-36, and A-26.

Yes, I actually was invited to Temple again this year for an interview.  Since my interview went well last year, they are using that one and I don't have to travel out there again.  Based on what I was told at my interview in Nebraska...I will get in somewhere this year and Temple is on my list.  I also applied to UPenn but no word yet.

Now that you mentioned that...it made me think and I looked back through my collection of photos I have downloaded over time.  To me, the B-36 is somewhat of an unknown aircraft...they just don't get the same kind of remembrance as other bombers (such as the B-17, B-29, or B-52) in part because of their peacetime service and relatively short career so I never put their size into perspective.

In any case, this should put it into perspective.  I was shocked with I saw this photo online (I can't remember where).  It is a comparison of the B-36 with the B-29.  To me, the B-29 is a much more well known aircraft and as a result easier to put a size perspective on.  So, this is the prototype XB-36 (notice no jet engines) with a B-29...I was amazed by the size difference.
