The pic there is a Transall. I'd be very surprised if the RAAF were buying them as they are somewhat ancient and AFAIK out of production.

Having just checked, the RAAF appear to be buying the C-27, a development from the Italian G-222.

Yeah the C-27 :D but the Caribou was in action back in vietnam :) so we have to get rid of it but you gotta say it was one very geniuse aircraft!!! ;) The aircraft pulled of a wicked display! Well both of them did!!!

Nah, we are only considering buying it. Surprisingly, the US is buying the Spartan too. I think the A400 looks like a better investment to be honest..

Ah, OK, I wasn't 100% sure whether it was confirmed or not against the CN235 etc...

Surprisingly, the US is buying the Spartan too. I think the A400 looks like a better investment to be honest..


The Lockheed Martin/Alenia C-27 Spartan...

...therein lies the answer. They probably wanted it delivered on time too (A400 slipping already, and they've got to be delivered to the launch customers first - an if the UK government considers selling the RAF to other nations slots they need heads examining, or to buy some C-17s!)
