Here's a shot of my "new" old bike.......Honda CB650C - 1981 vintage with a few mods....most notable is the header/4 into 1 exhaust .....with only 31,400 km, I think I can ride it for a few yrs yet......feels good to be up on two wheels again !

Quite rightly so. It is just a shame that the law lets you pass your test and jump into a hot hatch or a Porsche instead.

Indeed Cory......I've been looking for something this old for a while now.......didn't really want something which looks like it belongs on the track or one of the "Harley" look-a-like type either......just needed to find one of the old style "normal" run-around-town sort......... I think I have just what I wanted, but only time will tell for full satisfaction....... 8-)

Life started this way last century for me, Paul........It's just time to return to the past and continue on the path I started way back when !

Don't be so upset with that situation ...........it's for the good of the in-experienced.......can you imagine a young bloke with absolutely no previous power riding experience going in with a fist-ful of money and heading out on the road with a shiny new 150hp+ machine and coming off the seat 'cause he was startled by the first unexpected situation he comes across ?.....death is permanent..........

I do agree however, that a mo-ped may be a tad on the light side of power, but, there really does need to be some limitation for the new riders..........we all want to enjoy this fine mode of transport painlessly !


............riding my own stuff legally since 1980...........riding others and maybe, not-so-legally, for another 15yrs previous..........

Ben, if you do your cbt and then your d.a.s test you can ride any bike restricted to 33bhp for 2 years or if your over 21 you can go on a course lasting up to a week to be able to ride any type of bike.
(would still reccomend doing the cbt first though).

Ben don't make excuses, do your direct access test. Okay it'll limit you to 33 horses for the first 2 years but most good 500s don't make more than that and it'll help you learn your "road craft". My first big-boy bike was only a 550! I still managed to get up to 145mph at 5am on a sunny Sunday morning on the M4 on it 8-)
Also the other advantage of having a bike licence is that in the UK at least it reduces your car insurance as it has been proven that bikers are better drivers as they know how to read the road
Next year the test gets a LOT harder so get yourself booked on a course now. I did my test in a three-day intensive and never looked back. Still on the lookout for an old ZXR750K1 for a project, failing that an early Blade 8-)
