Dunsfold 2007 part 2 - a tribute

These days the airfield at Dunsfold is more well-known as the location where the BBC TV programme Top Gear is recorded. From 1951 until it was closed down in 2000 it was owned by the Hawker Aircraft Company (later BAe). The Harrier was developed & built here along with many other famous Hawker types including the BAe Hawk used by the Red Arrows & of course the Hunter. This part of the show was a tribute to my schoolboy hero, Hawker's chief test pilot Neville Duke who sadly passed away earlier this year.

The HAC Spitfire Mk V flown by Charlie Brown. 21 year-old Flt/Lt Neville Duke flew this type with 92 Squadron during his 2nd tour in North Africa in 1943.

Hawker Hunter 'Miss Demeanour' flown by its owner Jonathon Whaley. Neville Duke will always be associated with Dunsfold & this magnificent aeroplane.

This wonderful tribute to a great aviator closed the show. His widow Gwen was there to see it.

A fantastic sight, just a shame it couldn't have been a more 'military' Hunter but that's a fairly minor quibble. :)

A nice tribute. One of the "WB188"s would have been nice, but very nice all the same... :)

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

The hunter has nice lines, but the wings always put me off... they seem so plump on the sleak fuselage...  :-/
