I'm guessing this is no airsoft? Darn, with all the military guys around here, we can invade/rescue any country we want!  ;D

Does anyone else think that gas masks (from any era - ww1, ww2, current) look vaguely grotesque and disturbing?

Wasn't saying they were a bad thing... want me to list the gruesome details of what chlorine gas does to you when inhaled?

Tough, I'm gonna anyway;

essentially it enters your lungs and burns the inside of them - the same kind of burn you'd get if your hand touched the inside of a hot stove. The burning causes the cells lining the inside of your lungs to produce mucus - which then fills up your lungs and you drown in your own mucus. It also essentially dissolves your eyeballs to a foaming mass and burns the inside of your throat so that you are unable to breathe - even if your lungs survived.

eeeurgh.

Forgot to mention by the way, these shots are really nice - especially the 3rd one because of the lighting...

Yep. The chap nearest the camera looks like he needs a smaller one too. They could do with putting on NBC suits too. Nothing like running round chasing perople whilst wearing full NBC kit with an SA80 banging around on your chest and NBC boots making you run like a demented version of the Snowman! I'm sure Matt and Ozzy would agree! ;D

Baby gas masks from the WW2 era are most disturbing. I saw on in and antiques shop a couple of weeks ago. :)

"GAS GAS GAS!"

Or he shaved a gap in the middle of each of his eyebrows.... either way, if in his company, I think I might embarass myself - I wouldn't be able to take my eyes off his four eyebrows.... a bit like the 'mole' scene in austin powers goldmember.... ;D

The Air Cadets has certainly changed since my day.

Baby gas masks from the WW2 era are most disturbing. I saw on in and antiques shop a couple of weeks ago. :)

I had one of these but fortunately never had to use it in anger. Mickey Mouse gas mask

My brother & I sometimes played with it many years after the war had ended. I'm still not convinced it would have been the slightest use.

Quite. I hadn't seen the Mickey Mouse one (at least not in recent times). The one I was thinking about was this one - the baby respirator: here.

Dam, you guys need some lessons on slapping cam cream on your face  ;D

Go to Stansted airport sqn and ask for Rob Hall (he looks like Buzz Lightyear  ;))

Gotta say though, L98's are fun..anymore than an arms length away from you, and they're free to be stolen  :P

Ex ATC Flt/Sgt (2003-2007)

Black Sheep  8-)

P.S That cadet in the one pic with his brassard on, tell him never to wear it on DPM clothing again. Kinda defeats the idea of DPM clothing when there's a blue bit of cloth on it  ;D
