In a previous life I worked on them for nearly ten years. I had a high power run up qualification for engine checks. From the first day to the last run up I made, I always got a kick out of post engine run up tests. Aircraft on the tie-down pan, engine at 108% nozzles aft, aircraft bouncing and vibrating around and tearing at the chains and then in one smooth movement move the nozzle lever to the hover stop. In a split second you became a hovercraft and it was smoother than a Kashmir cod piece.  8-) :) 8-)

Matt

PS great pictures too.
PPS Got to Fly in a Harrier T10 as a leaving present.................Better than.......... ;)

Even with all that heat, efflux and outside, you still cannot see the fan through the intake due to condensation  :o

I didn't get any of the crash, I could barely see it from where I was at. I have alot of those aircraft before they took off, the P-51-A was a very rare aircraft you don't see them very often, and it was the only one there, (I think). I will post some of it, it was a beautiful aircraft, and again my prayers go out to the Pilot and family.

Oddly enough if memory serves it was a USMC pilot who was allowed to try the prototype Harrier many years ago and then spent something like 2 years convincing his bosses that they NEEDED this aircraft. Just goes to show not all bootnecks are daft (my cousin being another exception inspite of being a typically drunk member of the Royal Marines for some years) ;) ;D

Good for that pilot.

Now if only he'd do the same to British Airways about the A380... ;D
