Very nice pictures, but how the times have changed. I remember when you would have had a greater chance of knitting wool than seeing a 51 Sqn Nimrod at an air display. Back in the 70's and 80's my dad was an MAEop on 51 and could not even get a 12 year old a look in the cockpit (I had to make do with the scout hut at Wyton instead..................a Comet Mk4 ::))

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

I suppose in the same vain, nowadays you don't have a chance of seeing an MR.2 flying at an air display, when a few years back it was a regular display item! Bear in mind the Nimrod R.1 is based at Waddington, and they always try to send up the home team for the airshow (with the addition of the Sentinel this year).

Air displays at Wyton, 51's Nimrods where parked on the far side of the air field well out of public view, unless you had a very, very good lens. Even as a small boy, when 51 came home form "foreign parts" family was not allowed within about 50 feet of the aircraft. Mind you, Fred the Red was not our best bud back then ;D
