Any idea why the cockpit is offset in the Canberra?

It is the provost...in its fighter guise rather than its trainer one....

Nice series of shots Mic. These are some of my favourites.

as of the canberra I have no idea...I seem to remember reading about it somewhere but have forgotten....maybe one for Doug...

The offset canopy was featured on other British aircraft of the period, notably the Sea Vixen. The second crew member sat beside & below the pilot, within the fuselage itself. I always thought it was something to do with the AI radar in use at the time being easier to operate in the dark. I believe this was only used on one version of the Canberra, the B(I) Mk8.* The pilot was the only one with an ejector seat. Other marks of Canberra had the more familiar two seat canopy.

*PS. And the PR. Mk9. Canberra Types - UK

The pilot's seat in the Canberra was always on the left hand side - look at the training models and earlier marks and it has a more round bubble canopy - on the later models (B8, PR7/9 etc) the larger canopy was not necessary and so it was substituted with a more normal style single seat canopy.

Edit. Doh! I see Doug had already answered. The the main reason it is lie this of course on the B(I). 8 and the Pr 9 was that the second crew member (certainly in the PR9) sat in the hinged nose compartment.

Love that VC10 shot

note:the bird off the right wing

BTW, the first shot shows clear skies but the rest of the shots show a grey and cloudy picture?
