A little jaunt... Pt 1

Postby beaky » Sun May 27, 2007 10:31 pm

I got permission to only work 1/2 day today, so I could go do a little flying. Took a few pics this time- pt 1 is a quick look at my temporary base, Ocean Springs Airport (5R2), in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Nice little airport... but with a large pilot lounge, classrooms, and a big deck outside. Here we're looking northeast.

Every small airport needs a small hound to guard the beacon tower... this fella must be a trainee, though- he was just grinning and wagging his tail at everyone.

There are two very friendly cats who have the run of the place; even have their own cat hammocks in the lounge. I couldn't get a picture of the other one because it was so inceredibly fat I couldn't get it all in the frame. ;D

This Mooney is available (for dual only) at $115/hr. Not bad.

I like this modified John Deere tug... sure beats wasting gas taxiing or pushing the planes 100 feet or so from the fuel pump.

The wind has been misbehaving here lately, blowing mostly out of the east. Not as easterly or as gusty today as last time I flew here a few days ago, but have a look at this sock- this is a four-second sequence.  Seemed that every time it gusted, it was at least 50 degrees off centerline. :D

Taking off is easy enough, until you clear the very tall pines on the east side of the field. Here's another of the school's planes heading out.

Any of you  pilots who may be flying that way or want to get checked out for flight in that area, be sure to visit. Excellent services, good planes, good rates, and real nice people. :)

Great Sean  ;)

Doesn't look like too many folks out enjoying the weather, I would think the deck should be full of bug smasher drivers?

Any time the sun comes out here it is a blessing.  We have had so much rain lately a lot of the small grass strips are still unusable.

Even the black flies are late this year, hope June, July and August are drier and warmer.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
