Local scenes

Hi,

I've been trying to capture some local scenes, trying to apply a little photography knowledge to places of interest to see if I can come up with anything interesting. Here are a few of our local churches and my initial attempts

1 and 2 are views of the same church from different angles









I'm finding it really difficult to get foreground interest, and a full view of the interesting parts of the churches. Add to this some very bland (or completely overcast) skies, and some restricted opportunities to get out and about, and it's been a little frustrating. However I feel I have some good ideas in mind now for when the right weather comes along.

Very nice. Wish I could get an unobstructed view like that of some of our churches. Plenty of interesting architecture around here but it's very difficult to get a clear shot at them.

The latest blot on the landscape is those awful plastic recycling bins of various colours usually placed right by the church entrance.

They look good to me Steve, but then again, which bit of old English heritage doesn't?

It's a good point Doug, churches always look great from a distance, but as soon as you get close enough to actually see any detail you begin to find all manner of things which ruin any chance of a decent image. The final picture is taken with the camera 7 ft in the air, held above my head and resting on top of a wire mesh fence, erected because of the danger of falling masonry from the tower  ::)

Nice shots Steve, Alot of things here peak my interest, are there any dates on when these churches were built? The top of the first church looks like it use to be a castle, the only thing missing are the Archers in between the stones shooting arrows at you. Are there any dates on the grave stones that I see in 2 & 4, and what is that stone thing in the foreground of shot 4?

It would be really nice to shoot buildings like these, with a shift lens and not have the vertical lines converging towards the top of each shot......but then, not many people even notice that effect......thats not to say these aren't wonderful shots of some amazing architecture, on the contrary, they show off the beauty of old England on their own merit....... very nice indeed !  ;D
