The Grand Western Canal (Part II)

Part I

Here are the rest of the pictures taken on my little walk:

Here's the memorial to the crew of the Canberra which crashed near Manley Bridge (the 4th bridge along the canal). At 6:50PM on 21st November 1961, Flt Lt Roger Moore and Fg Off Martin E. J. Archard crashed in the canal. Whilst over Devon an engine failed on the Canberra, and the pilots had the chance to eject over Tiverton - if they did, their aircraft would crash into Tiverton and kill many; instead they chose to pilot the aircraft to its doom and couldn't eject, leading to their deaths in the canal. Most of the debris was removed in 1961 but in 2003 whilst dredging the canal, some wreckage was discovered. Sad story indeed. :'(

Manley Bridge, the fourth bridge along the canal, 1.5 miles from Tiverton.

The same bridge further on.

Which way round? :D

Was an interesting walk, hope you enjoyed the photos!

Excellent shots in both threads Charlie - a very relaxing walk by the looks of it.
