Rare beastie

I think this deserves a thread of its own. Seen at Popham last Sunday. Been waiting a long time to get some half-decent shots of it. Anyone know what it is & what's unusual about it without looking it up? That would be too easy. :P

It's in its original factory colours. Not many were built & this is one of only two airworthy examples in the UK, maybe the world. I've seen both parked next to each other at a fly-in some years ago. (There is also one example of a taildragger version which I've yet to see.)

Hmmmm... let's see:
Once upon a time, a Moth, an Ercoupe, and a Tri-Pacer collided in midair... ;D

LOL Exactly my thoughts. I was going to say a mix between an Ercoupe and a Chippie.

Comparison with the Ercoupe is appropriate. I would have said Auster rather than Moth or Chippie. Gipsy Major cowlings all look very similar.

Thanks Jacob for not spoiling it. ;)

So I looked it up in my mammoth collection of aircraft encyclopedias. Had me stumped, but I found it. I'll wait 'till Ken weighs in on this. :)

I like my way better. :) Plus I found one for Flight Sim. I'm eager to take it up.
