Air Fest 2007 - part 3: some walk-thrus, etc.
One more before I roll my sunburned butt into bed... got an early call tomorrow.
Several variants on the C-130 were there... this was my fave: a NSF Herky on heavy-duty "skeels".

Then I got a "Spooky" feeling I had a new favorite:

A halfway-decent shot of the gunship's flight deck.

Here's a closer look at the "little" gun: a 25mm Gatling gun that fires 1800 rounds per minute; any flavor you like- including explosive rounds. Good for getting someone's attention.

A very poor shot, but it shows the mechanism of that gun, on the inside.

The heavier guns: a 40mm Bofors gun, which, according to a cremwmber, could be made to lob 100 shells a minute, if the crew is really working hard... and a 105mm, which takes a bit longer to reload for a still-devastating 10 rounds per minute.

Sorry about the quality, but here's a look inside at those. Bear in mind this is an operational "Spooky"... the whole plane reeks of gun oil. Mmmmm... gun oil...

So why are the guns all on one side? Well, they needed room for the control console from which these guns are fired. The Spooky's high-tech eyes give the gunners a nice view of the target, and for them it's like a video game... joystick the pipper, and blast away.

Big airplane, right? Wrong. This is a big airplane: a C17 Globemaster III.

Now, I tried to endure the wait to get up into the crew deck, but... I just couldn't take anymore, and I wanted to get back to the show line.

But I did spend some time perusing all this... stuff...

It's a wonder why all this gear doesn't come crashing down every time they land... ;D

Almost forgot this one: a very businesslike A-10.

Next: more walk-thrus
