Brought the camera today, and managed to take a couple of snaps from the commissary parking lot while rehearsals were underway during our lunch break... unfortunately, I went a little too far with the zoom, so they'repretty bad.

Got some good news and bad news:

The good news: I've got tomorrow off, and will be attending the show!!! Hoo-rah!!!
The bad news: after I stowed the camera in the car and we were walking back into the CENTCOM compound (not allowed to bring it in there), one of the BA F18s took to the air, joined shortly by a F-86!!! They were circling the field in close formation for quite a while... and me with no camera!! I could cry, especially because I don't think the F86 will be flying during the show (not scheduled, at any rate).

But I saw it... and it was pretty cool.

Very stoked for this show: I'll be beating the crowds by arriving early at the base personnel gate, so I should get a good spot. And I'm supposed to meet up with our very own Kevin, who lives nearby.

Hey good news on the day off, enjoy yourself......and keep Kevin away from the chillers ;-)

Update: while we were at dinner tonight, one of the guys called the Lockheed project director, or whatever the heck her title is (we are doing this job as a subcontractor under Lockheed-Martin)... she wants us to meet her at some place in Tampa at 0700 so we can follow her on some sort of "secret route" to gain access to the base easier (the rest of the crew is going to work, but she knows I'll be attending the show).

this could be helpful: not only are 350,000 people expected for airFest, there is also a Gran Prix event taking place in St. Pete this weekend... traffic is going to be horrific.

 I don't know if this will involve Hummers with 50-cals on top clearing the way or what, but I'll be sure to have the camera ready, and also I will ask her if she can hook me up with VIP flightline access...had no idea she had that kind of "pull".

Gonna be a great day, regardless... good wx forecast, camera batteries topped off... SP30 sunblock ready.
