The last few evenings, we had some very pretty sunsets, without clouds, so you could see a redning sundisk glding towards the horizon... however, I can't capture this accurately on my sensor...

No matter the shuttertimes, the sun always looks this pinkish coulour...

Kinda neat in itself, yet hardly realistic...

Any idea's how this comes?

Kris,

Could your camera be set on an incorrect "white balance" setting?
It is a digi, right?

It's a digital... let me check the white balance... clever thinking Dave...

Edit: nope; white balance at auto; no coulour-effects...

Perhaps the lightmeter can't cope with the abundant light of this sun...

Strange,

So when the light is darker, it copes fine....
Quite possible what you mentioned....

Try getting a polarizing filter and give it a try....

Instead of setting the white balance to Auto try setting it to daylight? Sometimes it can do some funky stuff on auto.

It's possible the sensor is unable to process that much light and just being washed out. I hope I am wrong.

I tend to use shutter speed of about 1/1250 ISO 100...it seems to work if you let the camera sort out the aperture for you from there...

I took a couple yesterday without clouds and they are fine too....
