A visitor at work

We had a visitor at work today. It is a Yak 52,  here are a couple of pictures. They are not so good, I was using our works camera which is cheap and cheerful.
Also it is a small world. I was talking to the pilot and it turns out that this aircraft and pilot where the very same "team" that I saw at La Ferte Alais in France last year.

factory or aftermarket prop (factory one has cutting marks painted on it)

Very nice. I do like the modern, cleaned up tailwheel undercarriage version - although having said that, a Yak 18/50/52 doesn't look quite right without the wheels sitting underneath the wings...

It was a no name digital. My weapon of choice is my Nikon F2, but a bit cumbersome to have in the pocket all day unless you are Geoff Capes (who is now a prize winning Budgerigar breader :o).

Very nice. I see lots of Yak 52s these days but this is the first Yak-52TW. I assume that's what it is.

I found a nice sound file here. ---> http://www.yak-52.com/ Specially for Fozzer. :)

WOW...!

Fantastic photo's Lads... :)..!

One of my favourite "Air Race" aircraft, the Yak 52 (Tricycle).... ;)...!

They are as rare as Hen's teeth in this part of the country even though I only live a few miles from the main YAK importer, Richard Goode at Ameley, Herefordshire.

They are always a popular sight at our local Club's Air Races, (when they turn up), starting up with a clatter and a cloud of smoke, and developing onto the sound that only a beautiful radial engine can make.... ;D...!

Cheers all...!

Paul....(I wish I had a P&W radial engine on my motor-bike!)... ::)...!

P.S. Thanks for the "Yak 52 World" link, Doug. Saved it in my Folder... ;)...!

Just look how clean* and compact that radial engine assembly is, compared to a Lycoming, etc, Flat 4/6 installation is, in front of the firewall...!!

* ..mind you, it hasn't started to drip oil, or catch flying bugs yet.... ::)...!
