A weekday morning quickie

Postby beaky » Tue Mar 13, 2007 10:42 am

Well, I was approaching the 90-day mark on the school's SP, and had the morning off, so I decided to go air out my wings a bit...
Perfect wx: no wind to speak of; nice high overcast; cold enough to require preheating.

Almost felt I was getting my money's worth from this machine today: she started up with no fuss, and performed very well.
I did OK, too... although I displayed my usual rusty tendency to land a tad long on four out of my six landings (also not used to having no wind!), they were all nice and smooth. Hard for me to stall this beast on when lightly loaded, but I came close a few times...
Also took a few snaps- enjoy. ;D

My weather briefing concluded with a look out the window: looking good for a hop in the pattern.

Got there a little late (buncha poor slobs going to work)... but soon it was "up, up, and away!" time... yippee!

On base (or possibly turning to correct a wide downwind; not really sure) :

Turning final (a wee bit wide):

Wow, that's a fancy Skyhawk. ;)

Nice shots Sean, it doesn't look like you guys have much snow there.

Not just fancy, but fancy-schmancy. Fuel-injected, leather seats, heat that realy works, and a panel to die for...
Not really worth the extra money if one is flying VFR, but it's the only 'hawk they have here, and I want to stay current in a plane I can take friends in... I was using the GPS today to make sure i didn't get lost in the pattern... ;D

No, not much at all this winter.

Nice one. Looks idyllic. :)

It was... nice smooth air, and no traffic except some highly maneuverable starlings and "Casper", the friendly white C152, up for a dual session... I am so glad I hauled my carcass out of bed for that, even though I'm working 2PM-10PM today.

I'm going up Saturday... how early will you have to leave Pittsburgh to be at 47N before 8AM?

;)

That's what's with the empty seats... ;D

Very hard to get friends to join me, most of the time.
And honestly, today I didn't want an audience, although some ballast would have been nice.

Should take you roughly 6 and a half hours for the 370 mile drive... Just follow the map and you'll do fine...

Thats not to bad, I figure if I leave about midnight, I should even have time to pick up Willit_Run in Philly, and have breakfast, and still have time to preflight the plane for Sean. ::)

Maybe some other time, when
I have a bigger time block and I'm headed west...
But hey, if you're there at 0800 Saturday, there will be a seat... ;D

I'll see if I can finagle getting out there on Saturday. I'll stand at the end of two-five with a big sign that says "DON'T SCREW UP!!!" :)

Or you can just fly out to N40. Whichever. :) (Tomahawk burgers are on me!)
