Interesting choice. That poor old Sea Balliol looks rather sorry for itself. I can't help wondering what it's doing in the RAF Museum.

More interesting that plane almost caused a punch up between a bunch of over the top plane enthusiasts and some well non enthusiasts.
These guys were running round trying to get reg numbers, loudly trying to show off their knowledge, when this guy turns round and makes a rather loud comment along of the lines of, "these guys need to get a life". Or simmilar. Then one of the others turned round and said "oh you just dont feel the love or the vibe" or something along those lines, which got a "grow up" reply.
sufficed to say I vacated the area rather quickly.

It's pretty rare, probably the only complete Sea Balliol in the UK. I'm curious that the chaps at Yeovilton haven't claimed it.

We almost got a Balliol at Old Warden for restoration to airworthy condition but I think they decided against it for some reason. I forget why now. Charlie will know more about that than me. It would have been a nice addition to the collection of RAF trainers. IMHO

That's interesting, at first I was going to say engines, but looking again the refuelling probe is missing. i never noticed that when i was there (too busy ogling the Lincoln ).

I'm stumped Craig, what did they do with it....glue it to a Vulcan?  ;D

I wanted to oogle the Lincoln but it wa jam packed with tourists from Germany. (I had to refrain from making jokes, "look fammiliar from that angle?") and so on

The Pucara is indeed a very cool plane, read Sharkey Ward's book "Sea Harrier over the Falklands" to see how it nearly ended up at Yeovilton instead of Cosford  ;)

Read Peter Vacher's book about the recovery and restoration of his Hurricane, and I expect you'll find the Sri Lankan officials were putting up more red tape than the Indian's did to that. Normally they cite that they want to preserve their own heritage (ie let it rot), or not let us have their military hardware - you never know what secrets a Balliol contains!

Maybe, just maybe, the powers that be could rescue the Sea B from RAFM - or take it on permanent loan as the LVG was - it would make a good Merlin engined trainer for Spit and Hurri conversions...

They're not exactly hidden though are they? Anyone with a GCSE history (and not even a good one) can understand the sometimes dubious accuracy and reliability of primary source, in this respect Sharkey doesn't do much to blur the lines between subjective and objective opinions  ;D
