Trough the website www.spaceweather.com I've reached a facinating website about atmospheric optics... http://www.atoptics.co.uk/

Currently I'm on the hunt to catch as many as possible of these phenomena with my camera... call it a hobby...

Excellent Kris.
Are you going to be out tonight photographing the lunar eclipse? It should be starting round about now...

Sure I am, providing the cloudcover goes away... It should, according to the weather forecast. The high point should be between 23:45 and 0:55... so I hope to get a good view and shot...  ;)

Clear skies here in Saarf London, I'll be out in the garden shortly  :)  I've been trying to photograph the moon all week, with mixed results... hopefully tonight will be the night it all goes right!

I can see a small chunk missing from the bottom left...I was expecting it to change colour first.

What settings are you all using?, I have had it on a large aperture and high shutter speed (2000 on my digital...1/2000 sec ?) up till now, but I imagine as the night progresses that I will need to drop the shutter to account for the reduced light.

Be interesting to see everyone's results

Steve

I've been taking progresive shots, again with mixed results..  :P
I've found the best setting so far is 1/800, although some are blurred. It's very close to full shadow as I speak.. fingers crossed!

Fantastic Omag. :o

I'm looking forward to seeing your photos of the lunar eclipse. I had a go myself but without success I'm afraid.

Well my autofocus has just give up, it managed for a while but it's too dim now to get a lock. The manual focus on mine is difficult at the best of times and it didn't get very good results.

I found anything over 3-4 seconds didn't get sharp results, presumably down to movement of the tripod or even lunar travel, still, I'll have a look at what I got a post some in a new thread

I'm getting some good looking photos at 5-10 sec exposure, albeit viewing them on a 2" LCD screen.. I daren't upload them just yet, the tripod seems to be set perfect!
