Put the camera on a tripod, point it in the direction of where the aircraft is most likely to be, set the shutter to be open for around 30 secs to a minute (whatever your camera can do) and trigger it (ideally with a remote to avoid as much shake as possible). An immensly basic explanation for something that is harder than it sounds, I've never tried.

Course you also need to trigger a big arse flash right in the last second of the exposure to get the plane in shot.

There doesn't seem to be much movement in the stars so I should think the exposure was more than 10 seconds.

I don't plan on trying, I was just wondering how its done.  I figured it was a long exposure, but wouldn't the plane be all blurry in a long exposure?

I get it now, thanks.  Seems like its a lot of work for a brilliant result if its done right.

If I ever get a good camera (might not be for a few years) I definately want to try some of these techniques.  Practice on cars or something.
