Landscape and PS - opinions please

Hi guys,

There is a small river near where we live, which I have been trying to get a picture of for ages. The river is in a dip in the ground (as they often are, being rivers) which takes a while for the rising sun to reach into, but if you leave it too late then the sun is too high and the light too flat. Today I finally got there at the right time, in the right weather for some interesting light.

I put a graduated neutral density filter (cokin nd8 grad) across the horizon, to stop down the sky a little, and a cokin 81b orange filter to warm up the light generally. I used aperture priority f8, which gave me a 1/13 shutter speed. My tripod held it steady in the gusts of wind we have here at the moment.

I shot a few frames as the light changed, and then headed off.

This is the best of the bunch:

Forum rules affect the overall impression (not mentioning the c-word  ;) ), but my real question, is what do you think of the changes in the following:

Here I have used photoshop to burn in the sky a little, burn in the wall in the foreground, clone out the wire mesh for a little more berries, clone out the shadow on the left hand side. What do you think of the overall effect, is it too heavy handed or would I have gotten away with not showing you the original?

Just wondering...........

Steve

This is excellent Steve. Your photography course is certainly paying dividends. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I don't really like edited photos but would never have noticed if you hadn't said anything. ;)

Thanks for the kind comments chaps, for me the burn on the wall and bush on the right hand side is a little over done, the bush looks a little superimposed. I could try burning the grass around it a bit, to 'feather' the effect into the grass, and make it look a little more natural, and I think I have cloned recongisable fetures into the grass and the bush.....

All in all I am pretty happy with it though....I couldn't find a way to frame it differently on the day. Any further left and you straightened out the stream too much, and lost the foreground of the wall.....further right and the stream entered halfway up the left hand side of the frame, and you had all wall in the foreground......

I think I made the best of the frame, just got to get better with the PS tools  ;)

Yes, an excellent piece of editing 8-) I still can't clone that effectively!
