Ok, as I have already said in a thread in the Cafe...I went to Philadelphia to interview for a seat in the Temple University School of Dentistry's class of 2011.  If accepted, I will start school this coming August.  While I was in town, I did spend a little time doing some sight seeing in my free time.  Overall, it was a great trip and I really hope they accept me.

Anyway, here are some pictures from the trip.

This first photo is of the dental school at Temple University (I figured since this is what I was there for, the should post it first  ::)).


This is a photo of myself standing next to the Liberty Bell...it was smaller than I expected.


Here is a shot of Independence Hall, the guy standing to the right of the photo is my father.  


Here is a photo from inside Independence Hall's assembly room where the details of the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were formed.


Finally, here is a shot of the US Mint in Philadelphia...the oldest mint branch.  Being an avid coin collector I felt it was important to visit the mint, infortunately it closes to the public at 3:00pm so I didn't get to go inside.  


Anyway, those where the highlights of my trip.

I wish I knew you were in town.  We could have got together.  My wife works about a block from the Liberty Bell for a dental insurance company.  She has been in Dentistry for over 26 years.  She started out as a assistant and the became an office manager and then a insurance company she work with asked her to come work for them.

 Independence Hall.  Where it all began for our freedom from the Brits!!

 Sorry, when I go into town I don't always have time to take pictures!!  Next time I get some shots and like I said before I'm going to go around and take pictures of the murals that are painted on the buildings!!

On a different note, your pic of Independence Hall reminds me of when my third grade class traveled there to learn about all that. My best friend got his foot stuck in the railing. They actually called the fire department to get it out. What a day.

Also, I haven't seen the Liberty Bell since then. I always thought it looked big, but hey, I was ten years old.

It amazes me that people travel to all sorts of exotic places & on their return all they can think of is posting photos of bloomin' airliners at bloomin' airports.

Maybe I shouldn't post pics of my return flight to Newark.

Maybe a picture of a bloomin' onion. :-?

Nice set- I haven't been to Philadephia in ages. Too bad you missed the mint tour- it's very cool.

I'd post more pics of the places I visit for work, but they all look pretty much the same, as I rarely have time for sightseeing and wind up going from airport to hotel to generic corporate park or whatever.

(sorry had to ask..the schools marching band got stranded on that corner in the middle of the night when their tour bus broke down...)

These look much the same all over the world & I would much rather see a few photos of the places they visited even if they're typical snapshots.

 I didn't think so but, your right!  Most the pictures I post are of aircraft.  I'll take you on a tour of my part of the world soon!!  You got a little taste of it here.

I'm glad you like the pics Doug.  I personally don't care for seeing a lot of airport pics (because they seem to look the same...but sometimes they are nice).  I didn't see much worth taking photos of at the airports so I didn't even have my camera out.  I was saddened to not see a single Boeing 747 in my travels...they seem to disappearing.

Anyway, thanks for the best wishes on my application and you guys will be the first to know when I find something out about school.

Most long-haul routes are flown in there by Airbusses (Airbi?). Of course with the exception of UPS and Evergreen and the occasional charter, 747s are a rare sight at PHL nowadays.

Not just at PHL but at PDX and MSP...not a 747 in sight.  I figured visiting 3 international airports on my trip (2 visits to each) would yield at least one 747 but I didn't see any.  For some reason, I have always loved that jet (having never flown in one).  

Did you see a Battleship resting on the Camden side of the river while you were flying in or out?  Big beautiful gray piece of steel with teek decks?  That'd be the USS New Jersey BB-62 and my grandfather served on her in Viet-Nam!  I took a trip there in 05 just for that ship.  ;D  I also did tour the big sight seeing places.  ;D

I couldn't see it from the plane but I was looking for it.  My father went with me on the trip and both of us wanted to see it but we didn't have the time.  Apparently, it saved my father's bacon one day when he was in Vietnam.
