I have a friend on my MSN who cant get their flash to come up on a Sony DSC-H5 its an automatic popup flash and they arent great with cameras (Its practicly too much of a camera for what they use anyways) But what would cause the flash not to come up other than it being busted? They set it to red eye reduction etc and it just wont come up. I have a simple camera with a release button (I will NEVER buy an auto one from this expierence)

Cheers, Gunny

I have no experience with this make or model but this type of camera are all very similar. This might sound basic but first make sure the auto-flash is not switched OFF or in a mode that doesn't use the flash. If that's not the problem most cameras of this type have a button to open the pop-up flash housing manually. I've found the mechanism on my Fuji S5000 can sometimes jam if it hasn't been used for a while.

Yea If I could use the camera myself I'd just use a screw driver and make it open if all else failed, however its not my camera and I can't get to it so.... I was just asking for suggestions for her, she's pretty mad with it. but thanks!

From what I can tell its a fully automatic flash, when the flash is set to on, and the camera thinks it needs it, it pops up.... How can a company make something as potentially Faulty as this? I dunno if its operator error or a messed up camera as like I said I know the person online and they aren't too good with complicated electronics and such. So its impossible for me to help them personally. Well Thanks for the help!
