And you're right about the flash- take it from an old theater hand; the big problem is not so much that they'll be thrown off and make an error so much as they might wind up going off the front of the stage into the orchestra pit...!
Remember kiddies... even though the lights are bright up there, a camera flash can really mess with a performer's vision if they happen to look into it!

The people using a flash at the ballet are the same dolts using their flash in the upper, upper tier of a football stadium in broad daylight...
-"Didja get it?"
-"I dunno; did the flash go off?"

Very lovely shots! Don't really need flash with the stage lights.... I played in school band for 4 years and those blasted lights will kill your eyes..... You can't even see the crowd really but those flashes can be a bit annoying, not deadly though, just annoying (Catches your eye and makes you look up though) I thought I was going to go blind the first time I was 'under the lights' in a 7th grade music competition

Try dancing all the way downstage (particuatly heading downstage)and having some moron in the front row hit you with a flash... people have gotten hurt that way. Heard about a guy who died falling into a pit, but he was drunk and only the "ghost light" was on...then there's jugglers and acrobats; they could do without flash photos, too- for safety's sake.


I did audio for many dance recitals in a theater with a pit, and we'd have these young kids lined up near the edge in the dark waiting for a cue or whatever, many having never danced on a real stage before, and there's Mom and Dad leaning over the pit rail, flashing away... morons.
But as these pix show, with a steady hand you can get lovely shots. The ones with the slight blur are just enhanced by that... beautiful stuff, Corey!

I'm not into ballet myself but those are excellent shots.

On the subject of flash photos I'm surprised that cameras are allowed at all. I'm pretty certain they're banned at many theatres on this side of the Puddle, mainly for copyright reasons. They want people to purchase the official photos.

Can I take photographs of the show?

No video cameras, cameras or recording devices are allowed in any theatres. In some of the larger theatres, images from the show can be bought in the foyer. Souvenir programmes are also available at most shows.

Yep, you could take a stumble off the stage (A good 5-8 feet down depending on the theater) I saw a few acrobatic band members too lazy to use the stairs hop over it! Would suck falling off though, be a bit painful too, I don't think Being in band is as bad as dancing and such..... Pretty easy actually.
