I agree it seems harsh, and it is a really nice scene.

I can possibly see why it got rejected and the other one accepted, being ground of quality. The helicopter, though boring is in perfect focus, and the colours etc all look right. Your shot on the other hand does look slightly (hmmm i don't know the word) washed out, and it has a blueish tint...could be it.

If it were my site I would accept though

Frankly, I liked the composition of your Thunderbolt shot a lot better... I think it's about the fact that you can't see the whole plane and the background looks cluttered, with all those tails, people and smoke... to cluttered following their standards... I personally like this shot, as it gives a nice feel of the atmosphere of the show, but it's not an "amazing" shot, if you catch my drift...

The BELGIAN chopper is in plain view, so I understand why they prefer that one over this shot...

But on the other hand Jake, you allready have some shots on there... something I can only dream of with my current camera...  

I'm not expert but, despite the quality of your pic is good, I think it has some drawbacks.

first the background is somehow disturbing, the smoke by itself, and the line of tails.

second the angle is not advantageous to the T6, I mean not showing it under its best angle.

last, but you can't do too much about it I think, the sky is not exactly great...

well, otherwise that's a great picture and I really feel sorry it was rejected from Anet.

If I'm going to be brutally honest, I never thought that shot would get accepted at A.net. The main reason being that it's far too overexposed. It'll obviously be because you were shooting into the sun, and therefore gives that washed out look.

Also, as Cobra said, it does look strangely blue (around the blacker areas), and so the colours look wrong.

As for that shot of the MD-520, I can't see what you think is wrong with it? The helicopter is in focus, it's sharp, sitting nicely in the frame, perfectly exposed, the colour replication is very good, and can't find anything at fault.

You must understand that although you do get shots accepted, not all of your shots will, and it's unfair to compare them to shots that have been accepted.

Remember, if your shot is not technically sound, it's not going to be accepted on A.net. Even if it's the best shot you've ever taken!

Oh yes, and a tip:
If you're getting shots rejected for quality, don't upload them at 1600 pixels wide! I always upload at 1024 pixels, as the quality seems much higher than if I upload at a high resolution. It also gives more freedom as to how you can compose the shot when editing.

Thanks for that, Tweek. I guess I kind of thought of that myself, but it's good to have that second opinion. I have this shot in the que now, and when I had it at 1600 it looked horrible. So 1024 for me from now on.

i'm with tweek.
Far too overexposed. the cockpit is just washed out. Colors are lacking and i dont think its level. All things they will reject it for.

Its a nice shot though dont get me wrong, but brutal honesty is needed for those wanting on anet.

Kris. My two anet shots of the helicopters were both taken with my 2mp fuji camera. You've gotta know your cameras strengths and weaknesses to make the best of it.
