Objective: Queens, NYC

Had to bring the car in today for a little mission to Shea Stadium, and wisely remembered to bring the camera. The funky light was taxing my crummy camera, but got some interesting snaps.

About to get on the Queensborough Bridge at 59th Street in Manhattan:

Image

Driving over the bridge, I managed a "blind" snap of the imposing Belaire condo tower, which Corey Lidle and Tyler Stanger managed to strike in a Cirrus just a few weeks ago...impact was on the opposite side. Not that anybody needs to see that- I just thought this would give an idea of the scale of this building, which is about 1/2 mile away in this photo. I've never had any desire to fly in that corridor, and this is just one reason why.

On a lighter note: my travels took me very close to KLGA...

Finished my work (removing a balky touchpanel PC unit from an interactive kiosk), and went patrolling for a good spotting location.
Turns out that when they're using 31, the Home Depot parking lot off of College Point Ave. is pretty good.

Aha, shooting the Expressway visual on 31. I've always wanted to go there to spot. :)

Nice shots, Sean!! :)

Looks like a great spotting location.  I like how you can catch them banking into their final!

There's an apartment building right under that "corner"... I need to make friends with somebody with keys to the roof. ;D

I haven't been to NYC since 1988; when the company I was working for installed an under-stage, electro-luminescent guidance system at the Imperial Theater.

All I remember was the insane traffic. Your first shot shows a pretty barren road leading up to the bridge. Was/is that unusual ?

Great plane shots, BTW..

Not really... that was at about 1300. Bit of a bottleneck just before that point, as always, but it's not a bad time to do that.
I hit the Lincoln tunnel lineup at about 1700 on my way home... different story. ::P
Rest assured, not only is the traffic still bad, it's gotten much worse since 1988! :D
