Hi all,

I was out today, to do an express delivery for my new employer. I had to go to the town of Albert in France. About 1,5 hours from where I live...

Once I left the freeway, I noticed the area is covered with war-memorials. The town is situated in the Somme area, that saw some of the fierced battles during World War I. I can tell you one thing. Driving trough a landscape that makes you think of all those fallen men, who fought for our freedom, makes a man humble. I can't say if it's because it is autumn, but it really got to me...

So here are some views on the memorials, to show my respect for all those men who aren't remembered enough...

Not a single word about the German soldiers who gave there lives... all because they were fighting on the wrong side... Most couldn't help it... they were sons and fathers too...

Indeed. There are German cemetaries and memorials in France, but they are understandably low key (considering they did invade the place twice), and at first weren't particularly welcome by the French themselves. Also the German state equivalent of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission was only formed relatively recently, and (particularly in the former USSR) cemetaries are still being constructed. They also tended to use mass graves a lot more, hence the scarcity of cemetaries, and they tend to favour larger single cemetaries, whereas you seem CWGC cemetaries in France and Belgium with as little as 20 or 30 headstones.
