Below you will start to see what I refer to as "The Finish Work".
Here is the closet that will house all the audio visual equipment. This used to be a closet full of shirts a jackets!

Image

I finished the closet with "white cedar" panels. It is a "tongue & groove" installation. Each panel "snaps" into each other. I built all the shelving that will hold the DVDs, Cd's and video tapes. To the left is where the rack of equipment is going to go. The closet has an interesting "smell" to it. It is a mix of cedar and electonics...

Ok, there she is!! The 61" HDTV DLP!! When I did home theater installations, we would always make sure the equipment fit. The measurements I took all seem to be dead on. I built the wall unit frame before I even had the TV itself. Did some research, got the exact dimensions and it fits in nicely. I will be really "fitting" this when I do all the trim around the screen. You can see the peg-board behind the TV. This is for ventilation of air for the projector. The bulb is bright, hot and needs adequate airflow. I can remove that peg-board from the basement staircase and access both areas. The rear of the TV and the rear of the A-V rack!! Below will be my left, center, right and sub. I also have 2 small satellite speakers in the upper left & right corners of the room for added stereo serperation.

The couch is in!

View from the corner on the couch. As you can see, the oak panels have all been fit.
Now I will need to remove them all and stain them.

Here is the view from the other side of the room.

Stay tuned for "How to Stain Oak Panels"

Yes  ;D But I do not plan on moving! I have not even finished it yet. This room is close to the end though and that is why I have "rewarded" myself with it. I was surprised my wife gave me no hassle when I suggested it.

LOL craig! If I did you would have seen a huge extension off the back of this room where I could "fit" it all a little better. That 61" is on the cusp of being a bit big for that size room. I got a really good deal on it and could not pass it up.

I'm not a big sports nut, but suddenly I'm all psyched for football season... buddy... ;D

That big "Sammy" is a good choice; very nice for the money. Glad you didn't get a plasma- they're overrated, IMHO.  And an LCD that size is just too damn expensive right now.

My, but the sim would look good on that... drool...

And that's the swankiest A/V closet I've ever seen!!  :o

What a great looking room.  Love the sofa and the TV!! :)

  Great work, Dave!!

I'm picking up my 50" LG Plasma HDTV this week-end if everything goes right.  I was looking at DLP's and LCD's but the LG Plasma is my pick!!  Not a bad deal either.  Going down to Delaware to buy it, NO SALES TAX in Delaware ;D

Sorry, Sean I know there overrated but you know, hey my Wife said she wanted the same one her brother has so who am I to argue!! ;D

Thanks Vince!
This room comes from many years of "being in the biz".
For 12 years I was involved in custom home theaters. Many of our clients were high end customers with lots of money to spend. I can't count the many expensive homes I worked in.
George Benson, Whitney Houston, Steven Spielberg, Howard Stern...
saw allot of very custom homes and worked with many specialized craftsman.

My installation partner and I were a real good team. I was very technical and knew allot about audio - visual. My partner was a carpenter and a real "attention to detail perfectionist" at that. I was the technical guy and he was the "nuts & bolts" guy! This made for a very productive installation team when it came to installing custom wall units with drop down screens, video projectors, running & snaking cables for multi-room home audio, etc... When I started out I was 22 and could care less about detail. All I wanted to do was to finish the job and get home so I could go hang out with my friends!

After working with this "perfectionist" for over a decade, he taught  me allot and many of his techniques rubbed off on me.
"Do it once and do it right!"
"Take pride in your work".

Like I have said, I am a humble guy and do not like to "show off" at all.
I am glad you all seem to like what I have created as it is many years in the making of seeing things and trying to incorporate them into my own house.

Thanks again for all your comments, it is appreciated as my wife seems to have gotten used to all this. I constantly need to remind her that I did not go to school for this nor was it ever something that I studied to do. I have a vision and am lucky enough to be able to create what I want. My wife always needs to be reminded that with everything I have done in this home, it would have cost over $75,000. I guess that is why she keeps me around!  ;D

Well, at least you picked a good one... as long as you're not trying to control it via RS-232, you'll like the LG. ;D
Certainly not worth a fight with the wife... and they take up a lot less room than a projector-type.
