Down by the riverside

I arranged to meet a friend for lunch at the airport last Wednesday. My car was in for service so I decided to let the train take the strain. As it was a nice day I had a stroll along the riverbank. This is Shoreham High Street taken from the footbridge across the river Adur (pronounced Ada). It's a lot different now from what it used to be.


This is what's on the other side. Some things don't change much. Floating homes - well most of them still float but they will never go to sea again.

What maniac uses torpedos to aid floating? I think that Gosport ferry might have been in use when I was little! We used to use it to go and visit the clan all the time.

LOL They're not quiite that silly. I'm told they're Tornado drop-tanks.

My first thoughts as well - the slate grey and green camo is a give away...

...giving careful consideration to the size, I think they may belong to something else that had complete wraparound camo - which basically narrows it down the the Jag, Harrier and Hunter...

Not you aswel Oz? I remember having to walk down to  the ferries, we used to regularly go over the Solent from Gosport as we lived in Andover when I was a wee nipper - I hated those ferries

Great shots Doug, that concrete barge is a really nice find - makes you wonder how it actually floats - it really looks like it shouldn't (I know, I know - surface tension - but you get my drift.)

How many folks actually live year round on boats like you just posted?

Are there bylaws they have to abide by and would they pay taxes?

I noticed in the first shot a double decker bus.  I thought they were all replaced this year, seems I think I heard that on the news.

I would be annoyed, come to think of it, if I had the berth next door and it blocked my view and the sunlight... and I'll bet the bilge drains out the side rigght onto the neighbor's deck...

I always thought I would want to live on a floating boat when I retired and go from port to port.

It appealed to me because if I did not like my neighbours I would go over in the middle of the night and cut their ropes and give them a push. LOL

Than never materialized though.
