NAS Wildwood Air Festival Pt.1

Postby Willit Run » Tue Sep 05, 2006 9:25 pm

Well during my vacation I went to the Cape May County Airport ( KWWD ) that used to be NAS Wildwood for they're annual air festival.  The weather sucked so the only thing flying was the B-25 and some GA.  The first that catched your eye as you park is the herd of Caribou ( DHC-4a ).  They are owned by Pen Turbo Aviation and are being retro-fitted with turboprop engines and then sold.  An F-14 greeted you next.
A sweet L-19 Birddog and I think an old search and rescue Avenger.  More to come!!

 Enjoy!! :)

Most of those Caribou have Spanish markings on them... and boy, are they grimy.
Where's the little Cessna with the Betty Boop nose art? ;) ;D

OK, question here,........ is that a Bird Dog or a cross between an L-19 and a Cessna 180.....the fin and rear side windows seem soooooo out of place compared to the model I built.....

From a quick search round it would appear to be the later & more powerful O-1C 'Bird Dog II' supplied to the US Marine Corps. Due to change of US military designations in 1962 this was also known as the OE-2. http://aeroweb.brooklyn.cuny.edu/specs/cessna/oe-2.htm
The original US Army L-19A became the O-1A while the US Marine OE-1 became O-1B.
Apparently only 25 of the O-1C variant were built so I don't know if this one is original.
