In all it's glory

Taken from us too soon, may the family of the pilot find peace in knowing that he died doing something he loved.

July 24, 2006 - The pilot of a restored Korean War-era F-86 Sabre jet was killed after the plane crashed and burst into flames near Hickory Regional Airport.
Spokeswoman Mandy Pitts says the crash occurred several hundred feet from the runway during the plane's takeoff. Firefighters put out the flames.

Officials say the single-seat military aircraft broke in two and the ejection seat was not used.

Pitts says the aircraft was on its way to an air show in Wisconsin when the crash occurred shortly before noon.

Tragic story. Another crash in the USA within the space of a couple of weeks (after the Hunter). :(

Taken from us too soon, may the family of the pilot find peace in knowing that he died doing something he loved.

That's the mentality I like to take.

Very sad. I saw a news-chopper video clip of the aftermath; wings lying separate (as a unit) from the rest of the aircraft, which was more or less upright, on a road. Sort of looks like it was a controlled crash, but it must've hit very hard, and the fire consumed most of the forward section.

This beauty and her pilot will be sadly missed.  :'(

Erwin Rommel? I doubt it.

Rommel was known as the Desert Fox. The "Desert Rats" were the British 7th Armoured Division that opposed & beat him in North Africa.

I think Doc is correct. This is the late Wyatt Fuller with his F-86.
