Reminds me of this e-mail that got forwarded to me day before yesterday. Hope you don't mind....

I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.

A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea,
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free

Enjoy Your Freedom & God Bless Our Troops

Oh, bless them in Heaven, My great-grandad being a surviving B-24 Liberator pilot....
*Starts crying*
*Breaks out bugle and begins playing "Taps"*
*Gets a slipper in the head, reminded that it is 11:54 PM here*
LOL Cheers,
Doc

I wouldn't want to forget. World War II is BURNED into mein Gehrin, my mind. I hate who I am because of it. Fortunatly, I do have some pride. My great-Grandad flew against the Luftwaffe, he being of German decent. I am a proud German, although I have to deal with racial comments. Don't ask.
Cheers,
Doc.
P.S. Hitler? YOU SUCK!

Hey Dr. Goodfly
Just because you're german, dosn't mean that you are a nazi, right?
I'm danish, and that dosn't mean i'm a viking, right?
it was just bad luck that hitler settled down in germany, and not any other country..

So please remember, on SimV is EVERYONE welcome! :D (Except those whom post pics out of guidelines, we marmalade them! ;D )

Cheers Theis

I thank God each morning when I get out of bed with a roof over my head and the freedom to do what I want to do...

Words can not describe the appreciation I have for those who have worked hard over the years to maintain this freedom.

To ANYONE who has had a part in it...THANK YOU

I'm German, and If I had lived back in the '40s, I wouldn't have had a problem to fight in WW2. We didn't fight them for being German.

What's interesting is that I have relatives who fought on the German side in WW1 :o

Wasn't hitler from Austria....?

My grandfather also fought as an infantryman on the side of Italy in WWII, alongside German troops at times. In spite of this, (like many soldiers at the time) he detested fascism, and only defended it because he was basically forced to. He has shared many a funny story with me, like the time he broke a German soldier's nose with a food-tray for trying to cut in line in the mess hall. ;D

Joking aside, remembering past wars, and the people who fought (and died) in said wars, is the first step in preventing them from happening again. Which is why we must always honour those who made freedom possible for us today.
