Summer Air Show 2

Today's theme was air racing & homebuilts. It was also a celebration of the Popular Flying Association's 60th anniversary.

The little Currie Wot opened the show, representing all homebuilders.

Excellent!! Nice pix of some "real" flying machines... ;D
 Love that Comper... I'm not surprised at all that it's fast. The tail reminds me of a Hughes speed design, and putting the wing right down on the fuselage, with that really nice fairing, certainly helps reduce drag. And that's a racer's wing for sure.
But I wouldn't want to try to land it. Might as well close your eyes... ;D

That looks like a gear reduction drive on the Pobjoy ?....is that a normal config for that engine ?

Never seen a Pobjoy without it, including those on the the half scale Shorts Stirling!

Here. Don't get excited, it was built in 1938 and probably lasted little longer. It resulted in the Stirling special very tall undercarriage...

Well I did never knew about that. :P Do you suppose it's findings from that which required them to add the extra long under carriage to the full sized model?
