As soon as we arrived, we noticed there was no activity in the air......but there was a bird taxiing into position to give a show back to the modellers.......

Here is the DHC-5 Buffalo in a demo flight just for the model fliers sharing the local SAR Base today.......
Image

Very low and slow flypast.......flaps, ailerons, gear,...everything drooping.....
Image

STOL approach and landing........
Image

Full stop by the tower !
Image

Showing the fine tight slow turn ability of the Buff.....
Image

Image

Now this is heathaze.........
Image

Still carrying the nose gear, much to the delight of the onlookers..........
Image

And just over the hill, you can see how hot it actually was......plenty of people on Air Force Beach, with the mainland mountains in the distance.......

Great shots Ken, and what a beautiful place you live in.

How does a geordie end up in B.C. anyway? Wrong turn off the Tyne bridge? ;)

Splendid "turbo-Caribou" there; I had no idea that conversion was called the Buffalo... go figure.

Great shots Ken...thanks :)

They want to get rid of the "Buff" to purchase something else foreign made and only a third (30%) as good.
Leave it to our stupid politicians ::) AND
"Only in Canada you say?" :( :( :(

I missed the model show at Mountain View two weeks ago, it was huge from what I hear, but it was poorly advertised and never reached the Village Papers.
They are going to put on a model float plane and sea plane event (1) one day somewhere around the Village of Frankford, they did that two years ago but have heard nothing since.

Again, thanks for the pics and Ken, don't forget I am an old single radial engined Otter lover if one just happens across your path ;DLOL

Cheers....Happy Landings....Doug

Ken I love to look at pictures of those big radial engined Otters, Norseman and Beavers.
It doesn't matter if they are on wheels, skis, floats or in military or civilian livery.

Mountainview five years ago, we were there also.  Did you overnight in Picton or Belleville?

Canadian Forces Base Mountainview is being resurrected, the runways will be resurfaced this year with an additional gravel runway being built for the tactical C130s "Hercs" to practice on.
There will be new buildings and hangars.  A 650 man quick response unit will be based there as well.

I am not sure how all this will effect the Air Cadet Glider Program as Mountainview has several new dedicated drop zone areas with new buildings in place already for the Canadian Airborne Troops.

I am not sure whether they will be able to continue to fly their models out of there either with everything going on.

If I hear anymore I will let you know.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
