Jones Beach Airshow-part2-A-10, MiG-17

It was a bear shooting with the sun so high and just behind the show action. And some acts came right over the beach occasionally, while others stayed offshore. Hard to know when to get the camera ready (I was trying to conserve the batteries).
I almost got nothing good at all from these two; here's the best of them. Both of these pilots put on excellent displays, really showing off their mounts' capabilities.

The Republic A-10 Thunderbolt, representing te renowned local manufacturer... the haze at this point in the show was a problem.

A little wisp off a wingtip as he starts a high-g turn...

Here's Bill Reesman in the spectacular Red Bull MiG-17; first time I've seen this one.

Bless him for doing a low "dirty" flyby...the MiG was really moving during the rest of the routine! I love this shot.  I could've cropped in closer, but I like it with the water. My feet were getting wet when I took this...
He yanked it off the water right after this and shot right up into the sun. What a beautiful little jet!

Next: The US Army Golden Knights and the new Texan II USAF trainer!

Nice MiG. Not seen one in the air myself. I like the last shot. ;)

Hard to know when to get the camera ready (I was trying to conserve the batteries).

That's not the idea at all. Get yourself a spare set & make sure they're charged up. Some spare memory too while you're at it.

PS. If your camera uses standard pen-cells get some dry ones as reserves.

Living in a Mig-infested looney bin of a country I have to say that is some of the best photos of the 17 I've seen in a looooooong time 8)

I have both... my trouble yesterday was that my backup cell (which is an "OEM" replacement, and a little dubious) was not "soaked" enough (even though I gave each cell a night on the dock to charge). The camera started dying just at the very end (during the Ble Angels' set, of course!). I really have to stop shooting video with this thing, and I guess bite the bullet and pay top dollar for one of Kodak's batteries (the cells are proprietary to the camera).

A redbull-add on a communist plane... hmm... that's kinda blasphemy isn't it?  ;D

Luckely they have this plane. I don't think there are many other mig-17's out there in the US...

The A-10 remains raw power... no doubt about that...

Great shots Rotty! Can't wait to see some more!
