Here's the warbirds. Nice to see this old gal in the air again.

Little friends. A formation pass with Sally B would have been nice. No such luck. These are heavily cropped.

BBMF turned up without the Lanc. It made it to the airport but apparently has undercarriage problems - "went tech" as they like to say nowadays.

Nice set of shots Doug :)

"went tech" as they like to say nowadays.

What an awful, meaningless saying that is - I don't know where it originates from, but I could probably guess. Fair to say, they (the BBMF) would have called it "unservicable" - the proper term...

That's more like it. :) Just so everyone knows, that's not the 'real' Memphis Belle.. ;)

I wonder what is up with the Lanc? Also why a PR19 with the BBMF rather than their more usual V or IX?

Probably brakes or hydraulics. It isn't getting any younger & spares are hard to come by. Something relatively minor like a leaking flexible hose can ground it.

Also why a PR19 with the BBMF rather than their more usual V or IX?

They were a tad busy this weekend & can't be everywhere at once. ;)

Nope, it's "Sally B" - note nose art on the left side of the nose :). She's remained in those colours ever since she starred as the "Belle" in the film in 1989. The checkered cowl is in the honour of Ted White, her former owner, who was killed in a Harvard in 1982. The aircraft is now operated by Elly Sallingboe (hence "Sally B"), his partner...

Indeed, they do have 5 to choose from. I also expect that the location of the show (over water) may possibly have a bearing on the selection of the aircraft that displays. :)
