Gotta hate those crosswinds, eh? ;)

This happened yesterday, near Markham, Ont.
They were coming in for landing and...well...

Well scary thinking about how a light aircraft can be easily flipped by the wind... or were they flying 'Ozzy style' too low.

The news says they got caught by a 46 kt. crosswind gust.

Yup...that'll do it. :)

46 kts!!?!?!
That would be trouble for any size plane on final... I wonder what winds they were expecting? With 40+kts gusting, it's a good day to stay on the ground...!

Nice stout little Cessna, though... protected them, and it looks like it may fly again. Maybe.

Flying level

Parts needed:

String
Paper clip
Tape if nessasary

How to install:

Tie one end of string to paper clip or other weighted object. Tie other end to an object in cockpit, or use tape. Have paper clip in full view of pilot,  ensure paper clip has full range of motion.

How to use:

keep paper clip pointed down.
If paper clip is on roof or seems to be floating pull stick up or quicly push stick left or right untill paper clip returns to proper position.

*Disclaimer*
If a sudden loss of airspeed is dectected, you have crashed or you have not used paper clip and string correctly.

It's amazing how quickly the wind can build up. Last summer I was sailing in a race in Norway. When we started it was a force 2-3 and suddenly a squall came through that took it up to force 7 in barely a minute and the only warning we had was all hell breaking loose on the other boats that the wind got to first.
