I wonder why, and who let them dredge that up. Surely the Lusitania is considered a war grave like any other vessel sunk during conflict where people went down with the ship.

Probably because it caused the US to get involved in the war. Plus the fact that we wanted to stay neutral adds some significance I'd say.

Oh, sorry for saying "us". I know I wasn't alive yet. :P

It didn't though. What dragged the US into that war was Germany trying to persuade Mexico to invade Texas to keep the US out of Europe. The Lusitainia was just an excuse and a battlecry for the troops.

Wasn't the Lusitania a sistership of the Titanic? I've been searching about it, but found nothing conclusive... Anyway, cunnard lost a precious pearl with that torpedo-attack...

Interesting stuff Nemo.

it was the queen Mary I ;)

Wrong war. RMS Queen Mary was launched in 1934. She served as a troopship throughout WWII & is now a floating hotel & museum at Long Beach, California. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Queen_Mary_hotel.jpg#file

No. Titanic's sister-ships were the Olympic & Britannic. Titanic was built by Harland & Wolff at Belfast for the American owned White Star Line. Lusitania was built at John Brown's on Clydeside for Cunard which was then a British company.

Not very mysteriously. At the outbreak of war the first thing that Britain did was trawl up Germanys secure transatlantic cable and stick and axe through it meaning that they had to use commercial cables for the rest of the war which meant every message sent across the atlantic was intercepted.
