Maybe final practice shots of the year....?

Postby Rifleman » Wed Apr 19, 2006 8:04 pm

After the cool windy and wet time we spent yesterday on the "Spit", Wendy and I spotted our perennial practice boys taking to the skies once again, so we drove like mad to get to a place called Kye Bay.....the Comox Base is just beyond the treeline on the left side of this first image.......

Here is what the area looks like from the top looking down over the sandy expanses exposed by the low tide.....

And just as I parked the car, we saw this sight as we looked to the right and towards the mainland.......

......and so for the next 15 mins or so, we saw formation after formation, doing their stuff in the grey overcast and only a select few observers to witness this practice session.........

..........all in all, from the distance and dull sky, I feel these could be better, but still, I'm glad I brought something to share as this could well be the last chance we get to see the Snowbirds go over their routine this year......... 8)

And it's this time of year that I envy you Ken.
I'd kill to be there, guess I'll just have to wait for august then.

You know Steve, its not all that great.....after you see them fly two routines a day for more than two weeks straight, it kinda gets to the point of  ..." oh, its just THEM again ....."   ::)

It's really kinda neat in every sense, as we get to see what they will do for a great many weather variations and how well they can work things out ........ ;)   ;D
Overcast low ceilings are our fav...... 8)

I wasn't trying to sound like the Snowbirds are boring or dull,....au contraire, I think they are great to see, but the other day in the paper, we had someone seriously complain about them being here each year......it was said that they are loud and imposing on the community  ???.....as far as I'm concerned, they can fly every day from now till the planes are unfit  ;D.....as an aviation enthusiast, just about anything that flies is fine with me  8).......as long as the wings don't spin 'round and 'round  and thrash at the air......... :P

Spectacular shots! What's up with people nowadays... no-one seems to be able to let things be... 2 weeks in a year? How bad is that? I'd love to see it, instead of nagging about it...

Enjoy it while it lasts Ken!  ;)

Perhaps, but I'd rather watch two routines for two weeks,
then watch no routines for all but one day of the year.
