A whole day of flying!! part 1

Good day for flying today, if a bit nasty crosswind-wise at47N. I took "casper" around the patch 7 or 8 times... hard work, but very good practice. About half of my circuits and landings were good, the rest not very bad, but today I made the worst takeoff ever, possibly... I've been saying "the wind musta got behind me" quite a lot since I started flying here, but, well... I think that's what happened. In a 172, it'd have been a non-event. In a rented 152, it was... educational.
Anyway, no pictures of that flight, but despite the very poor (Easter) turnout , I spotted a few happy heathens out worshipping as only pilots do: going flying on a picture-perfect spring day.
First time I've seen this nice Tomahawk flying here:

Lucky for him, the wind happened to slack off a bit and veer west as he rolled. Wasn't that way for me, I'll tell ya ("The sky was angry that day, my friend...").

Got a call earlier from MarcoAviator, so seldom heard from here at "the V" these days (busy with his own site, etc.)... seems he wanted some company for a flight in the Cherokee. I hung around until he arrived, and soon it was time to saddle up 56T for a little jaunt down south. Andiamo! ;D

Wayylll... I didn't take many stills on this trip; shot a lot of video (coming soon to YouTube), though.
We wound up on tiny Tangier Island, Virginia, which lies out in Chesapeake Bay. Having of course googled it when i got home, I can tell you the island's first white settlers were 18th-century fishermen from Cornwall.
It boasts a crusty old runway with grass growing through the cracks- no fuel, no facilities, but as soon as we parked, some guy in a golf cart showed up to collect a $5 landing fee. Looking back, he might've just been a local con man. ;D

A very quaint little place, still in the torpor of the off-season. But there are some year-rounders here, so there was one little restaurant open. We decided to hang out and have some grub.

There are many half-feral cats here; they are free to roam as they're very unlikely to get hit by a car (saw one there, but most people putt around in golf carts, apparently). This big tom approached us with a look that said "None may pass!"
As Marco tried to call his wife to tell her we were about to die, I realized the cat's message was for some other cats we had just passed... and Marco realized there was no cell service. ;D

Next: Pit stop at NAS Wildwood, then home

LOL That sounds more like Devon. The last time I was down there you couldn't park for more than a minute without a little man with a ticket machine suddenly appearing out of nowhere demanding money. This even happened in the most unlikely places, miles from civilization. I think it's the local hobby. ::) :D

LOL- yes, we've started doing that here and there, but on Tangier, if you dig a hole, it's likely to fill up immediately with water...:D

No, you daft old... ::) (shouting into Fozzer's ear trumpet): Tangier Island, Virginia!!!

The little town on the island is actually called Tangier- probably a "sister city" :D.

Here's a nice aerial shot:

It's kinda the wrong way, but were you just north of Allentown by the Alpo plant around 5:30 yesterday? I saw a low-wing single engine with a red stripe go past while I was on the Turnpike heading home from Bloomsburg, PA.

Alpo plant? So that's what that smell was... I though Marco farted... ;D

Seriously, though, it's totally the wrong way- we are based at 47N and flew south from there, not west. And the Cherokee is white and blue with a gold stripe... as shown in the photo... :P  ;D

Maybe you're thinking of that Tomahawk? Might've been him; I wasn't aboard that plane.

I envy you, rotty... I haven't flown since I posted my last flight pics.

The cats are one thing, just watch out for that rabbit from Monty Python!
