Well I was up to Budapest today (for some reason I keep swearing in Jock)... so an update on the Li-2 rebuild.... the rebuilt tail is on, alas I couldn't get closer due to the roadworks and rebuilding of Ferihegy (nearly got into a ruck with the police about wandering about when everyone else uses a car ::))

And I spotted this on the way home in Paks.... this is the local lifeboat house..... for some reason it made me laugh ;D

A strange and wonderful pair of pix, there... :)

The Li-2, though not "really" a Gooney Bird, is interesting. More interesting is the ship behind it...?

The second: there are no words... :D :D

Li-2 is license built DC-3, with single row 900hp radials and more glass in the cockpit. It's a little different in size (all dimensions converted to metric... and probably to industry standard stuff) and it is heavier and slower.

In WW2 these were used as night bombers, and some had a turret on the back.

To give an impression of the ride... Stalin preferred a VIP DC-3 above his specially built VIP Li-2 for a trip to Iran.
