After visiting the South African memorial we moved on to the Canadian memorial at Vimy Ridge. The memorial & park commemorates 11,285 missing Canadians.
Next to the road leading to Vimy Ridge, all of the surrounding area & woodland is full of craters like this, caused by the relentless shelling during battle:
