Off the top of my head I would have to guess it's a Avid Juicy 5, hydraulic disc with 8" Polygon rotor on the front wheel of a Specialized BigHit FSR III (that needs cleaning ;D)

Cheers,

It can't look much worse than my bike does. Since it was so warm today I went for a ride in the trails of Crow's Woods, about quarter of a mile straight line from my house. However, you cannot go to the woods in a straight line. You have two options, either take the roads and go up a 100ft hill thats 1/8 miles long, then down a 125ft  at a 25* angle (and then back up to get home), or take the shorter, but harder way. Heres the path I took today.

The pink line is an alternate route than can be taken only during a drought. The way I went today follows a dry creekbed, but on my way back there was a nasty downpour, and that dry creekbed didn't stay dry for long. It appears that the storm runoff from the AMTRAK/PATCO line drain into that creekbed, which in turn dumps into the main creek, which I had to carry my bike and myself across on the little bit of bridge that extends past the fence. T'was fun though, and I am thinking about building a bridge across the creek, it is very nasty water that you don't want to fall into. (at any given point it is 4-8' deep with a near vertical 2-5' bank)

I had a terrifying experiance last December with a branch of the main creek. It was frozen over, and my freinds and I were walking across the ice when just one of my legs fell through. I got out fine and immediatly went home to change. It only took about 10 minutes to get home, but by the time I left the woods, about 2 minutes, my pant leg had frozen solid up to my knee. Needless to say, I won't be doing that agian.

Hey Elite, I see you live near Winner Ford.  My Daughter dances at the Dance Academy in the Stop and Shop Plaza.  Looks Like Woodcrest.  My Wife's Cousin lives on Roumfort Ave. across Berlin-Haddonfield road from you.  Your not to far from where I live. :)

Uhm it really depends what your using it for? Quite well suited for XC stuff but would still be easy enough to ride on the roads.

This really isnt my field of mountain biking, but all the components look very capable for that sort of riding. I suppose you might want to go and have a proper look and compare wieghts etc...

Just had a look at some reviews, all seem good! So yeh, seems like a good buy, and not a bad price when compared to its rivals.

Think this is more TSC's area of experitize though, so i would drop him a line ;)

Hi Cameron,

Like Cobra has said, it really depends on what you are intending to use the bike for.

At a quick glance the Trek 6700 looks like a perfectly capable x-country machine. A very good mid-range MTB with a good level of components - not sure you'll need 80mm of travel in the forks if you are just going to be commuting on the roads. But if you really want a nice fast machine for having fun on off-road or racing x-country, then I don't think you'll be able to go far wrong with the 6700.

Bear in mind that I haven't raced for a long time & have been out of the 'bike scene' for a few years - things have changed, but Trek have always been one of the major manufacturers of well designed quality bikes.

Have you tried 'Googling' for some reviews from people who have owned/ridden the Trek?

Cheers,

TSC.

I did google some reviews, and found it to be the bike for me. I plan to be doing mostly X-Country stuff, and a bit of jumping (hence why I want the tora). Basically its buy this, or upgrade my current GT Avalanche, and since this bike is much lighter, and has most of the parts I was planing on useing anyway I think its going to be the best ride for me.

Cheers

and a bit of jumping

Ah, im sure it would cope with the odd little jump/drop on the trails, anymore and you will undoubtably run into trouble!! I used to ride a Scott Boulder, which is a very similar bike, and it literally fell to pieces!

To be honest there isnt really an intermediate between a jump bike and an XC one, but my recomendation, if your into both would definatly be to buy two bikes! The whole geometry and build on the Trek really isnt suited to taking to the skies ;D

I used to have one of these, and is great for dirt jumping etc, but as you can see no gears and really slack geometry so tiring to ride...

As with everything its all gotta be a compromise...
