Digital zoom is not my friend!

Now, compact digi-cameras are hardly notorious for their quality, especially if you make use of the digital zoom function (particularly noteable on the last two)! But, I had to make do with what I had! Took these last summer at Bruntingthorpe, these probably being the best that came out (after some cropping and colour correction ;)).

(I know compression has destroyed them.... but less complaining... more crappy pics!)

Excellent shots. ;)

I find that careful cropping/resizing with a graphics editor (even something basic like IrfanView) gives much better results than using digital zoom on the camera.

Yes, that's why the Dakota and Victor shots turned out pretty well. No zoom used for them, just some healthy cropping 8). The original shots were over 2000 pixels, so I could crop them quite a bit.

Some nice photos Tweek. The quality may not be the best on some of them, but because of the nature of the photos, we're happy with what we get ;D ;)

I was hoping that would be the attitude that people would take :)

Thanks for the comments!

Still great looking shots Tweek... we don't see to many of these models around!

Finally someone posts a picture of a good old DC-3, thanks Tweek.  Great shots all around, but that first one is the best ;D ;D ;)

Oh you would have loved it's departure Jake! Taxied to the end of the runway (the opposite end to where the crowd was standing), then took off, and kept down low at about 50ft, right past the crowd and pulled up and out. Magnificent!

All very nice, especially that Dak. And what the heck was going on with that "Cranberry"? do they always smoke like that?
Hagar's right; you'd be surprised how nice a "close-up" you can get by cropping down a good 4-5MP shot... I very rarely use my digital zoom, saving it only for those subjects that are very far away but worth trying to capture, regardless of quality, because of the special nature of the moment. But that's rare indeed... for the typical airshow application, I've gotten to the point where I'll go "max optical", hoping for a decent end result by cropping and maybe enlarging slightly, and it usually works out very well.

Yup, it's the cartridge starters. The sight of a whole squadron starting engines is something to behold.

Aha. I get it. Looks like a small gunpowder-charge cannon just went off... ;D
