A few shots of the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C., from my visit there, 2 years ago.
There isnt any water because these were taken July 6th, the fountain was drained and the memorial covered to protect it from the firework's falling embers.
Burma, one grandfather was in the Army Air Corps over there, other was on the USS Emmons, present at Normandy.

There was some controversy about the location of this memorial (not its content or purpose); many felt it ruined the effectiveness of that place as a great gathering-place for the masses in time of crisis, sort of a symbol of democracy-in-action  in American history. But I dunno... have to go see for myself, I guess. Want to go see the new aviation museum soon, anyway.
It's certainly high time such a memorial was built, that's for sure...

Nice shots!! :)

Now it is a great honor to the men who served in WWII but,  how come the engravers of Roosevelt's Dec 7th speech left out the last four words??   :(

" So Help Us GOD "

Some things are getting out hand these days. :'(

True, true... seems it'always one extreme or the other; striking 'God" from a historic speech, or fighting to display religious symbols in civic spaces...they're all dingbats.
The decline of common sense; very depressing... ::)
