Another lovely day for flying!(part 2)

Well, after the meeting-up, a parking fiasco (long story), and having to look at the Connie, the original flight plan went into the garbage. I just took Marc out over his hometown of Nyack by the river, dropped him back at 4N1, then hustled back home, battling a vicious headwind. No pix from me of our sightseeing flight- I was way too busy. Greenwood Lake's pattern was like a hornet's nest, and the wind was devilish!
Had a little trouble finding 47N in the growing haze and late-afternoon sun... and Melanie from the school started calling for me on the radio: I was late, and a CFI and student were waiting for 715.
As I turned base, I heard a familiar Italian accent on the CTAF: our very own MarcoAviator was making a practice VOR approach to the same runway. He sounded busy... ;D
I made a sweet short-field landing there; a pretty satisfying finish. Naturally, as soon as I had 715 topped off and handed over to its next user, the wind practically vanished. Figures. But it was good exercise, 2.2 Hobbs-hrs of struggling with the air, and now I'm only a couple of hours away from a grand total of 200... that's cool.

I'm in the habit of "decompressing" outside the pilot shop after my flights- always a lot to see. I'll let these snaps speak for themselves:

Well... might go flying next weekend, but if I hook up with SimVer Willit down at VAY, we'll most likely go south. That's not definite; if I wind up on my own again, maybe I'll just come over and say hi.
Also... Marco wants me to ride shotgun on a practice IFR flight the same weekend; no plan yet, but maybe we can convince him to shoot a VOR approach at Alexandria.
Or maybe I'll just have to plan a few minutes to swing over there and do a low pass... ;D
It's so close to 47N, it might just make sense for me to drive over there (or Sky Manor) sometime, and we could have lunch and critique landings. The whole "hanging out" thing gets tricky when you've got a rented plane... ::)
I think all of us NYC-area SimVers should meet up sometime, at a museum or nice little airport... maybe this spring.

Aye. I don't think there's a VOR at Alexandria, though. :)

I can't next weekend. I'm going camping.. :P

It's not on the field...I believe the approach is off a radial from the Pottstown station  (only published VOR/GPS approach is for Runway 8).
Camping? In February? Brrrr. I like "roughing it", but not in the winter.

I love winter camping. In fact, I have found a strategy to keep my boots from freezing at night. :)

Take your sleeping bag cover, turn it inside out, put the boots in there and stick it inside your sleeping bag itself. Then viola` no rock solid boots. :)
